My first exposure to drag was in my small hometown of Beaumont, Texas. On a tiny stage in a bar that has since closed down, I saw a lip sync performance by a local queen, Olivia Gardner. Entertained, entranced, and a little confused, I began attending more shows, meeting more queens, and educating myself on Drag HERstory.
Since then, I have relocated to Austin, Texas where drag performances and queens are much more abundant and accessible. With drag gaining more popularity in mainstream culture, I figured I would start writing and reviewing drag queens, drag performances, and drag shows. I hope this blog gives an idea of what to expect for those who are new to drag, or gives drag show veterans an idea of the best shows to attend!
On this blog, I plan to catalog the shows I attend, interview drag queens, and of course, review the performances.
